Description

HobbyCam is a simple, intuitive and high performance app for streaming live images from webcams attached to a computer.

This is the only app in its category that has native server backend for the three most popular operating systems: Linux, OS X and Windows. see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdMsF8-OHTo.

HobbyCam is ideal for people who would like to setup a cost-effective remote monitoring solution for homes/small shops.

Key features:

* Support live image streaming up to 25 Frame Per Second(FPS) (on lowest resolution) on both WiFi and 3G!

* Support three webcam resolutions: QQVGA (160x120), QVGA (320x240) and VGA (640x480).

* Users can change streaming frame rate, i.e. 1, 2, 5, 10 etc and webcam resolutions *live*. There is no need to disconnect or restart the HobbyCam client or server.

* Users can change webcam settings such as brightness, contrast etc settings *live*.

* Support strong authentications. HobbyCam server requires user accounts. User authentication is encrypted and user passwords are stored on server in an encrypted form. You can be sure that no unauthorised users can easily hack into your system and peek into your private life through your webcams.

* Support strong auditing. Every successful access to your HobbyCam server is logged. For Windows and OS X users, a pop message will appear when a remote user access your webcams so you know who is looking (or has looked) through your webcams, when s/he logged in.

* Support multiple webcams. You can have multiple webcams attach to your computer and have only one HobbyCam control and managing remote access to the webcam. In fact, you can control remote access to each webcam individually. For example, you can allow image streaming from webcam A but not webcam B. The remote users won't even aware of the existence of webcam B. There is NO limit on how many webcams you can use.

* Support simultaneous access/streaming from multiple iOS devices. You need multiple user accounts on the server so that more than one iOS devices (each use one account) can stream images from any configured webcams simultaneously. Multiple user can even stream images from one webcam at the same time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlkcJnuceQA).

* Support photo capture from the live image stream. Tap the camera icon, while receiving live images, will instantly save a current image to iOS photo library.

* Support Portrait, Landscape and Full Screen (in landscape) mode. Double tap your touchscreen to toggle from normal to full screen (while streaming).

* Support webcam plug-n-play. After your webcams have been configured initially with the HobbyCam server. You can simply unplug and/or plug any of webcams while the server is running. HobbyCam server automatically detects the hardware configuration changes and will stop or start the respective webcam dynamically. It even handles the situations that the webcam is unplugged while some remote HobbyCam clients are using it. HobbyCam server will inform the remote user and move them gracefully to the next available webcam!

* Support swipe-to-switch webcam. You can quickly switch between webcams by putting two fingers on the touchscreen and swipe horizontally across the screen. You can either swipe left to right or right to left.

* HobbyCam has native server running on Windows, OS X and (Debian/Ubuntu) Linux. No other similar product support all these three OS platform. HobbyCam is unique in this regard.

* HobbyCam Server takes minimal memory and CPU usage of your server machine (e.g. streaming QQVGA/25FPS from a mac mini G4 takes about 8% of CPU load!!). You can easily connect (and simultaneous streaming from) more than 3 webcams to a recent computer (i.e. any machine you bought in the past 3/4 years) and still be able use the machine for other tasks without noticeable slowdown!

You need to download and upgrade server to 1.3.2.

4/5 stars

After figuring out Set-up (Simple) ~ Works Great! & multiple Cams!

:
Thank you GalaxyNetwork.org for this App.

I've read your development 'Road-Map' and I glad to be a supporter of this app. I'm lokking forward to 'Audio Streaming'

I'm using it presently on an 4g Itouch and after some wrestling with set-up (because ididn't read instructions), it works time after time with multiple cams (one which is on a very, very old dell laptop and the 'Cam' is a very old camera too!

Four stars because it's still on development/feature 'road map' but 5 stars for where it is today.

I'd like to see a 'zoom/enlarge' image pinch option too. Multi-Cams in one window. And maybe ability to view all cams on network via PC.

Keep up the great work Xun Wang - Thank you.
